Bosnia and Herzegovina marks 34th anniversary of 1992 war casualties in Šip and Poljine

On 31 July 2026, ceremonies were held in the municipalities of Centar (Šip) and Vogošća, Bosnia and Herzegovina, to mark the 34th anniversary of casualties from the 1992‑1995 war.

In Šip, families, veterans and local officials laid wreaths and observed a minute of silence for seven members of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina killed by an aggressor grenade on 29 July 1992. The memorial, erected by Ramiz Bajić, lists Samir Babić, Dževad Čavčić, Aziz Grabovica, Hamdija Mešanović, Mustafa and Nail Osmanović, and Radislav Rašević.

In Vogošća, the Union of Veterans organised an event at Sjenička Kosa to commemorate the Battle for Poljine. Speakers included Salem Numanović, who said, "U to vrijeme pitao sam se zašto ginu najbolji među nama. Danas znam odgovor. Da bi vježno živjeli. Da nije bilo njih i njihove žrtve mi ne bismo ovdje danas stajali," and Minister Omer Osmanović, who remarked, "Od 1992. do 1995. godine sijali smo ljiljane…" The ceremony remembered dozens of fighters who fell in the 1992 battle, naming several by surname.
