Bosnia and Herzegovina officials to receive salary increases

Government officials in Bosnia and Herzegovina are set to receive further salary increases, despite failing to meet a significant portion of their pre-election promises. Reports indicate that monthly salaries for ministers and parliamentarians, which currently range between 6,000 and 7,000 KM, will increase by an additional 600 KM. Delegates in the House of Peoples could see salaries approaching 8,000 KM.

Monitoring of pre-election promises by the portal ‘Istinomjer’ reveals that at the state level, only 20 out of 251 promises made by the Council of Ministers have been fulfilled. The remaining 169 promises remain unfulfilled, while 59 are partially completed.

Finance Minister and Treasurer Srđan Amidžić has stated that he did not propose the controversial salary law and warned against it, noting that the responsibility lies with the parliamentarians who proposed and adopted the legislation. Analysts suggest these increases occur while many citizens struggle with low wages and pensions, and while legislative processes regarding anti-corruption reforms face ongoing blockades.
