Bosnia and Herzegovina opens 20km Zenica–Golubinja motorway section

A new 20-kilometer section of the Corridor Vc motorway, connecting Zenica North to Golubinja near Žepče, has been officially completed. The project consists of four sub-sections: Poprikuše–Nemila, Nemila–Vranduk, Vranduk–Ponirak, and Ponirak–Vraca.

The construction was technically demanding, with tunnels, bridges, and complex structures comprising nearly 75 percent of the new section. Key infrastructure includes the Bosna tunnel, approximately 3.6 kilometers long, and the Zenica tunnel, which is approximately 3.4 kilometers long.

The project was funded by the EBRD, EIB, Kuwait Fund, and OPEC Fund, with additional EU grants provided via the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF). Contractors involved in the realization included Euro-Asfalt, Hering, Cengiz, HGG, and Azvirt.

While the completion of this section marks a significant milestone for the pan-European Corridor Vc, the entire 330-kilometer route remains unfinished. The project has faced historical challenges including delays, cost overruns, and legal scrutiny regarding past management.
