Bosnia and Herzegovina political leaders debate electoral reforms and foreign influence
Political figures in Bosnia and Herzegovina are addressing electoral reforms and the impact of external actors on the country's democratic processes.
European Parliament Member Karlo Ressler argued that there are no legal or procedural barriers to establishing a Croatian electoral unit within Bosnia and Herzegovina, dismissing civic or unitary models as failures. He noted that political stagnation in the country is causing financial losses for its citizens and emphasized the importance of upcoming general elections.
Separately, Professor Armin Kržalić of the University of Sarajevo warned that foreign influence on Bosnian elections is real and increasingly sophisticated. He stated that this influence manifests through diplomatic support, media manipulation, and social networks to shape political narratives and weaken trust in national institutions. Kržalić noted that such influence can stem from both Eastern and Western actors, as well as regional neighbors and domestic political groups.
