Newer disputes have emerged regarding voting rights and citizenship. Central Election Commission member Suad Arnautović suggested that regulations concerning dual citizenship and voting rights for citizens living abroad should be tightened to align with constitutional principles, specifically noting concerns about Presidency members voting for the president of a neighboring country. Legal expert Milan Tegeltija countered this, citing Venice Commission opinions to argue that dual citizenship should not obstruct electoral rights and noting there is no established European standard mandating states to allow voting from abroad.

While HDZ BiH and Dodik advocate for reform, SDA president Bakir Izetbegović continues to allege systemic discrimination against Bosniaks in cities like Mostar and Stolac.
