Bosnia and Herzegovina politicians accused of using public funds to influence elections

Reports indicate that political actors in Bosnia and Herzegovina are utilizing public budget reserves to influence upcoming elections. Transparency BiH has noted over 2,000 instances of electoral law violations, primarily involving the misuse of public resources. Specifically, authorities are accused of distributing non-budgeted, one-time financial aid to pensioners, students, and pupils to indirectly secure votes.

State auditors have highlighted concerns regarding the discretion granted to politicians over public funds. Officials have the authority to distribute money to various associations, religious communities, and individuals without public tenders or standardized criteria. The Central Election Commission has already imposed fines exceeding 700,000 marks on parties, including the SNSD, for such violations. Experts suggest that the ability of politicians to control these funds during an election year undermines the rule of law and public trust.
