Overview

The Central Election Commission (CIK) of Bosnia and Herzegovina is implementing technological and administrative updates ahead of the General Elections scheduled for October 4, 2026. To modernize the process and prevent fraud, the CIK has introduced biometric identification devices and optical scanners for electronic ballot counting.

Administrative preparations include distributing ballots to more than 48,000 voters living abroad and verifying candidate lists for various government levels. The CIK has also begun fining political parties, including the SNSD and the PSS-Draško Stanivuković coalition, for the misuse of public resources or premature campaigning. Meanwhile, legislative discussions continue regarding the proportional representation of constituent peoples in public institutions.
