Bosnia and Herzegovina reports mixed agricultural and economic trends
Bosnia and Herzegovina is experiencing diverse shifts across its agricultural and industrial sectors. In the poultry industry, egg export value rose by 23 percent to 15.16 million KM in the first eight months of the year, creating a trade surplus of over 4 million KM. However, producers face limitations as they lack approval to export Class A consumer eggs to the European Union.
In contrast, fruit production has seen a significant decline. Yields for plums and cherries per hectare dropped by nearly 45 percent in 2025 compared to the previous year. Other fruit yields, including apples and pears, also showed decreases, though some cereal and vegetable crops reported growth.
Other economic and environmental challenges include a growing demographic crisis, with the population decreasing by nearly 12,000 people annually due to a widening gap between births and deaths. Additionally, the country faces waste management issues, producing over one million tons of municipal waste annually with high rates of landfilling. Meanwhile, exporters are preparing for increased costs due to new EU packaging and packaging waste regulations (PPWR).
