Bosnia and Herzegovina faces road hazards and transport disputes
Drivers in Bosnia and Herzegovina are facing hazardous driving conditions due to wet, slippery roads, fog, and an increased risk of landslides and rockfalls. Significant roadworks are causing various traffic disruptions across the country, including closures and altered traffic regimes on the A-1 motorway, the Brčko-Bijeljina route, and several regional roads. Specific areas such as the Hercegovina bridge and Klopče tunnel are experiencing restricted access or lane closures due to ongoing maintenance and slope protection works.
In a separate development, the Ministry of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina has denied allegations from the ‘Logistika BiH’ Consortium regarding responsibility for the exodus of professional drivers and transport companies from the country. Minister Edin Forto stated that the challenges faced by carriers, including long border waits and EU residency restrictions, are not solely the responsibility of his ministry. He emphasized that the 90-day Schengen stay rule is an EU regulation and noted that the ministry is working on regional coordination and digitalizing transport permits to mitigate these issues.
