Balkan and Central European transport disruptions
Overview
Transport and traffic flow across the Balkans and parts of Central Europe continue to face disruptions due to infrastructure projects, accidents, and environmental factors.
In Bosnia and Herzegovina, extensive roadworks and weight restrictions cause widespread delays. Landslides have activated on several routes, including the MI-102 Gradiška-Kozarska Dubica road at the Orahova entrance, the Prijedor-Kozarska Dubica road, and the Prnjavor-Ukrina regional road, restricting traffic to a single lane. Additionally, mining works and road expansions are causing disruptions on the Podromanija-Sumbulovac highway, the Lapišnica-Ljubogošta border crossing, and the Jajce–Crna Rijeka and Bugojno-Novi Travnik routes, where alternating passage is required.
In Croatia, congestion has intensified due to multiple accidents and vehicle breakdowns. On the A1 motorway, a collision at the Donja Zdenčina junction heading towards Zagreb caused a 10-kilometer traffic jam with speeds restricted to 40 km/h, while a second accident between the Vodice and Benkovac junctions forced traffic into a single lane. In Zagreb, a serious collision between a car and a motorcycle at the intersection of Dubrovnik Avenue and Froude Street occurred while traffic lights were non-functional, closing Dubrovnik Avenue for over three hours. Further delays were reported on the A2 motorway, the A3 motorway, the Zagreb bypass, and the Istrian Ypsilon, with increased density noted on the Krk Bridge and the Adriatic Highway. Authorities have warned of wet and slippery road conditions.
In Slovenia, traffic remains heavily hampered by accidents and vehicle breakdowns. In the Czech Republic, a collision near Hostašovice involving a car and a motorcycle left a 46-year-old motorcyclist in critical condition. In Slovakia, authorities are searching for a driver involved in a collision on Orava. In Montenegro, traffic remains suspended on the Djurdjevića Tara bridge until October 26, 2026.
