Bosnia and Herzegovina Seminar Highlights Climate Risks and One Health Links

On World Environment Day 2026, the Institute for Health and Food Safety in Zenica organized a seminar titled “Inspired by nature – for climate – for our future.” Climate expert Bakir Krajinović of the Federal Hydrometeorological Institute warned that climate change is now a daily reality in Bosnia and Herzegovina, citing increasing extremes such as the 2025 heat wave, the 2014 floods, and heavy snowfall in earlier years. He stressed the need to build a society resilient to these changes.

The event also featured Rusmir Goletić, who explained the One Health approach that connects climate shifts to the spread of vector‑borne diseases in the Western Balkans. He noted the emergence of illnesses previously considered exotic, attributing their rise to changing weather patterns and increased vector activity.
