Bosnia and Herzegovina to implement new election scanning and biometric technology

Bosnia and Herzegovina is preparing to implement new election technologies, including optical scanners and biometric identification, intended to reduce vote theft and restore trust in the electoral process. The Central Election Commission (CIK) aims to use these tools to ensure faster results and minimize abuses, such as the creation of invalid ballots or the addition of unauthorized votes.

The introduction of these measures has drawn criticism from the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD), who claim the new technology will complicate the voting process. Jelena Trivić, president of the Narodni front (NF), countered these claims, suggesting that the opposition's resistance stems from panic over the inability to manipulate results through traditional methods like ballot stuffing or altering valid votes after polls close.

While the new technology addresses technical aspects of election day, observers note that it does not alter the country's complex political structure. Critics emphasize that the success of the elections depends on political entities respecting the Election Law and the Constitution.
