Bosnia exhumed war victims finally buried in Prijedor after decades

In Sansko Most, families gathered for the 29th collective martyr's funeral as the remains of five victims of crimes committed in the Prijedor area were transferred from the Sheikovac Identification Centre to their burial site. The procession moved through towns of the Una-Sana Canton before reaching Prijedor, where the graves were prepared.

Among the mourners was Zamira Hajrudin, a Bosnian expatriate living in Hamburg, who buried her brother Azmir Hajrudin after a 33‑year search. Azmir’s remains were identified through DNA analysis, with samples sent to the Netherlands for confirmation. The identification centre still holds many unidentifiable remains awaiting DNA results, and authorities have pledged to begin further burials next year.
