Bosnia-Herzegovina commemorates 33rd anniversary of Kakanj Croat war crimes
A solemn mass was held at the monastery church of St. John the Baptist in Kraljevo Sutjeska to mark the 33rd anniversary of the 1993 crimes against Croats in the Kakanj municipality. The service, led by Fr. Bono Tomić, was followed by wreath‑laying, candle lighting and the presentation of a Diamond plaque to deputy speaker Marinko Čavara for his long‑standing support of the victims' association.
Officials from both Bosnia‑Herzegovina and Croatia attended, including Nikola Lovrinović, Josip Martić and Marko Šantić. The ceremony recalled that 103 Croat fighters and 22 civilians were killed, 34 villages destroyed, about 14,000 Croats were expelled and the local Croat population fell by roughly 82 %. Organisers stressed the importance of preserving the memory of the victims and safeguarding historical truth.
