Bosnia‑Herzegovina Police Boost International Cooperation on Border Security

Representatives of Norway People's Aid donated equipment to the Ministry of Interior of the West Herzegovina Canton, enhancing the police’s capacity for small‑arms control under a project that began with a memorandum of understanding signed on 11 March 2026. Police commissioner Ivan Brkić said the donation will improve the effectiveness of officers tasked with marking, labeling and registering light weapons.

A delegation from the EU border agency Frontex, led by deputy director Lars Gerdes, visited Sarajevo and met with assistant director Veljko Lazić of the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The officials discussed ongoing cooperation, challenges of illegal migration and cross‑border crime, and reviewed recent joint operations. Frontex reaffirmed its commitment to provide operational, technical and expert support, and the two sides exchanged a silver plaque as a token of the partnership.

Both meetings underscore Bosnia‑Herzegovina’s effort to strengthen its law‑enforcement capabilities through partnerships with international organisations and donors.
