Bosniak community unveils ‘Flower of Srebrenica’ monument in Denmark

The Islamic Community of Bosniaks in Denmark organized a commemorative ceremony in Tønder, unveiling the “Flower of Srebrenica” monument to honor more than 8,000 Bosniaks killed in the July 1995 genocide. The event gathered local citizens, Danish officials, religious leaders and members of the Bosnian diaspora.

High‑profile guests included Reisul‑ulema Husein ef Kavazović, Mufti for Western Europe Senaid‑ef, Bosnia‑Herzegovina’s ambassador to Denmark Anesa Kundurović Mijak, and survivor Ramiz Salkić. Speakers stressed that “remembering Srebrenica is a moral and human obligation of all generations” and called for education, laws against denial and continued cultural memory within both the diaspora and Danish society.

The monument, a symbolic flower, aims to keep the truth of the genocide alive for future generations and to strengthen ties between Bosniaks in Denmark and their homeland.
