Bosnian citizens sanctioned in Croatia for glorifying Ratko Mladić

Several citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina have faced legal consequences in Croatia for glorifying Ratko Mladić on social media. Croatian authorities reported that individuals posted images, symbols, songs, and texts expressing gratitude to the convicted war criminal, which caused public unrest and violated laws against disturbing public order and peace.

In Dubrovnik, three Bosnian citizens were fined and will have their work and residency permits revoked, alongside a three-month ban on entering Croatia. They also face a two-year ban from the European Economic Area following the finality of the judgment. Other individuals, including a Croatian citizen and additional Bosnian nationals, have also been processed by police in the Dubrovnik-Neretva region for similar offenses.

In a separate incident in Croatia, a 43-year-old Bosnian citizen was conditionally sentenced to 15 days in prison for similar social media posts in Korenica. The court ruled that his actions, which included thanking Mladić for his ‘freedom’, caused significant discomfort and offense to Croatian citizens.
