Following the death of convicted war criminal Ratko Mladić on August 27, 2026, regional tensions have escalated. Rosenkranz noted that Mandić’s previous condolences to the Mladić family had caused irritation among Austrian lawmakers, though Rosenkranz “welcomed the fact that Mandić has in the meantime expressed regret.”

Concurrently, the climate of intimidation against media professionals has worsened.
