Bosnian Reis-ul-ulema Husein Kavazović urges continual remembrance of Srebrenica genocide
Reis-ul-ulema Husein Kavazović addressed worshippers at Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque in Sarajevo in mid‑July, calling the remembrance of the 1995 Srebrenica genocide a permanent religious, moral and national obligation. He warned that forgetting the victims creates space for the repetition of evil and stressed that memory must become part of everyday education, family life and community activities.
Kavazović denounced attempts to deny or relativise the genocide, noting the recent UN resolution recognizing it as genocide and urging the Bosnian Muslim community to strengthen institutions, schools and families to prevent future atrocities. He concluded with a call for unity, support for displaced families and the continuation of solemn commemorations throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina.
