Boston Dynamics IPO delayed until 2029 or 2030

Boston Dynamics, the robotics firm owned by Hyundai Motor Group, is unlikely to pursue an initial public offering (IPO) in 2027. Senior management at Hyundai indicates that the company's flagship Atlas humanoid robot has not yet achieved widespread commercial deployment or the necessary scalability for a large-scale rollout.

The delay is compounded by significant financial losses. In 2025, Boston Dynamics reported a loss of 528.4 billion won (approximately $393 million). Cumulative losses from 2021 to 2025 have reached roughly 1.7 trillion won (about $1.26 billion), according to disclosures from Hyundai Glovis, which holds an 11% stake in the company.

Market analysts from Meritz Securities suggest that a public listing may not be realistic until 2029 or 2030, once the company establishes substantial performance metrics and enhances the functional capabilities of its robots. In July 2026, SoftBank sold a 10% stake in the company for approximately 500 billion won.
