Boston Dynamics unlikely to hold IPO in 2027
Boston Dynamics, the robotics firm owned by Hyundai Motor Group, is unlikely to launch an initial public offering (IPO) in 2027. A senior Hyundai executive indicated that a stock market debut may be several years away, citing the company's current lack of large-scale deployment for its flagship Atlas humanoid robots and its ongoing unprofitability.
Financial reports indicate that Boston Dynamics recorded a loss of 528.4 billion won in 2025, with cumulative losses between 2021 and 2025 totaling nearly 1.7 trillion won. While Hyundai has not released an official timetable or valuation target, the group has expressed long-term ambitions for robotics. Hyundai plans to build a manufacturing plant by 2028 capable of producing 30,000 robots annually and intends to integrate humanoid robots into its manufacturing facilities, starting with its site in Georgia.
Hyundai previously acquired a controlling stake in the company in 2021 and recently announced plans to acquire SoftBank’s approximately 10% stake to make Boston Dynamics a wholly owned subsidiary. Analysts remain divided on the company's valuation, with some estimates ranging between 50 trillion and 100 trillion won.
