Botafogo files STJD complaint against Grêmio CEO

Botafogo has formally filed a representation with the Superior Tribunal de Justiça Desportiva (STJD) against Grêmio CEO Alexandre Leitão. The legal action follows social media comments made by Leitão after Grêmio’s 3-2 defeat against Botafogo at the Nilton Santos Stadium.

Leitão referred to Botafogo as a ‘time de picaretas’ (team of swindlers) following a controversial moment where a late equalizer by Carlos Vinícius was disallowed by semi-automated offside technology. Botafogo argues that Leitão’s remarks exceeded the limits of sporting discontent and constitute an offense to the club's honor under article 243-F of the Brazilian Code of Sports Justice (CBJD).

If found guilty, the CEO could face fines ranging from R$ 100 to R$ 100,000 and a suspension of 15 to 180 days. The case is now pending further action from the sports tribunal.
