Botafogo-Grêmio executive dispute

Overview

Following a 3-2 defeat in a Campeonato Brasileiro match, a dispute emerged between Botafogo and Grêmio CEO Alexandre Leitão. The conflict began after Leitão posted on social media that football is ‘cruel’ and claimed Grêmio was ‘robbed’ due to a disallowed goal by Carlos Vinícius, which was overturned by semi-automated offside technology. The case is currently pending before the sports tribunal, where a guilty verdict could result in fines or a suspension of up to 180 days.
