Botafogo players face transfer uncertainty amid MLS debt and failed medicals

Uruguayan midfielder Santi is facing uncertainty regarding a potential move to Columbus Crew in the United States. While the MLS club is interested, negotiations are currently stalled due to outstanding debts owed by Botafogo to the MLS. The league prohibits transfers to clubs with such arrears, which include debts related to previous signings like Almada and Santi himself. The MLS transfer window is set to close shortly, leaving little time to finalize the deal.

Separately, striker Matheus Martins is returning to Botafogo after failing medical examinations with Dynamo Moscow. Botafogo has expressed disagreement with the Russian club's medical diagnosis and is considering legal measures regarding the player's image rights. Additionally, Ecuadorian player Gonzalo Plata also failed medicals with the Russian side and is returning to Flamengo.
