Botoșani Prefecture launches emergency measures ahead of severe weather alerts

The prefect of Botoșani County, Raluca Ștefania Curelariu, convened an extraordinary meeting of the County Committee for Emergency Situations in response to meteorological warnings that placed the area under an orange code for atmospheric instability. The authorities activated permanent service desks in all municipal offices, monitored vulnerable people and animals, and intensified surveillance of rivers and flood‑prone zones. Equipment for flood response, including portable pumps, boats and rescue trucks, was readied, and volunteer emergency services were tasked with field reconnaissance.

The county also prepared evacuation plans for residents, livestock and pets, advising owners to secure food, water and medical supplies for animals and to identify safe high ground. Public information campaigns on self‑protection measures were launched through local volunteer services and digital platforms. The situation will be monitored continuously by the ISU Botoșani Operational Center, with the orange code in effect until 03:00 GMT tomorrow and a yellow code scheduled to follow.
