Botswana Stock Exchange targets financial hub status via 10X by 2030 strategy

The Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE) is implementing its ‘10X by 2030’ strategy, an ambitious plan to expand the nation's capital markets tenfold. The initiative aims to transform Gaborone into a premier African financial gateway by repatriating billions in pension capital through a 50:50 local-to-offshore mandate and financing 186 national projects.

To support this growth, the BSE is focusing on product innovation, including Exchange-Traded Funds, Eurobonds, and asset-backed securities. A key component of this regional financial activity involves Access Bank Botswana, which is offering local investors receipts representing a stake in a US$1.6 billion Dangote refinery share sale. This specific offering is estimated at US$500 million and serves as a mechanism to route regional savings into major African industrial assets.
