Bouches-du-Rhône faces record July heatwave with temperatures up to 41 °C
Since Saturday 4 July 2026 the French department of Bouches‑du‑Rhône has been placed under yellow heat‑wave vigilance by Météo‑France. Temperatures on Sunday 5 July reached 38.1 °C in Marignane, well above the seasonal average of 20 °C in the morning and 31 °C in the afternoon.
Meteorologists expect the heat to persist for another 7‑10 days, with peak daytime temperatures forecast to climb to around 41 °C across the north‑east and western parts of the department later in the week. No rain or thunderstorms are expected, and the prolonged heat may break several monthly records, potentially making this the hottest summer ever recorded in the area.
Authorities warn that the continued high night‑time temperatures will increase the risk of heat‑related illness, urging residents to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun.
