Turkey legal cases involve apprentice death and student assault

Two separate incidents of violence involving minors in Turkey have drawn legal attention.

In Şanlıurfa, the first hearing has commenced for the death of 15-year-old apprentice Muhammed Kendirci. Kendirci died in intensive care four days after being subjected to high-pressure air from a 12-bar compressor by his journeyman, Habip Aksoy, at a carpentry workshop. Aksoy, who is facing charges of killing with possible intent, claimed the incident occurred during a joke while attempting to clean dust. The court has ordered Aksoy's continued detention, and the case is adjourned until January 2027.

In Afyonkarahisar, a 16-year-old student, E. I., was hospitalized with a broken nose and a facial laceration after an alleged physical confrontation with a teacher, E. K. The student claims the teacher headbutted him in a private office following an argument with peers. While the student's family has filed a formal complaint and initiated legal action, the Provincial Director of National Education stated that no administrative investigation has been launched yet as no official documentation has been received.
