BR-040 highway sees weekend roadworks and 24% traffic surge in Brazil
The EPR Via Mineira concessionaire will carry out maintenance on the BR-040 corridor in Nova Lima on Saturday, 1 August, and Sunday, 2 August. Work zones include the Mutuca viaduct to the Macacos access, the Chefão post, and the Lagoa dos Ingleses area, with partial lane closures and temporary use of the shoulder where sign‑posted. Operational teams will monitor traffic flow and adjust signage throughout the period.
On Friday, 31 July, the Via Cristais concessionaire expects a 24 % increase in traffic on the same highway as school holidays end, estimating about 62 000 vehicles between Belo Horizonte and Cristalina. Drivers are urged to plan ahead, check vehicle safety, and heed the signage for ongoing pavement repairs at several points, including Paraopeba, Caetanópolis, Curvelo and Sete Lagoas, where partial lane closures are in effect.
