Housing protests expand to Braga as citizens demand policy changes

Protests against the housing crisis and new rental laws have expanded to Braga, following similar demonstrations in Porto and Lisbon. During a recent popular assembly in Braga's Praça da República, approximately 200 participants gathered to discuss solutions and demand better living conditions.

Participants voted to organize a new popular assembly this Saturday, scheduled from 15:00 to midnight, which will include musical and cultural activities. The group also approved plans for a future encampment in Braga and a public session regarding the new rental law, which protesters argue is detrimental to citizens.

The movement has expressed significant criticism toward the government, specifically targeting Prime Minister Luís Montenegro, and has called for measures such as price controls on essential goods and taxes on the extraordinary profits of large banking institutions. Demonstrators also voiced concerns regarding police conduct during previous encampments in Porto and Lisbon.
