Overview
Protests regarding the rising cost of living and fuel prices have emerged in Portugal. In Espinho, approximately 80 people participated in a demonstration organized by local entrepreneurs to pressure Prime Minister Luís Montenegro for economic relief measures. The protest included a vehicle procession that ended near the Prime Minister’s private residence.
Following these events, the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP) announced a formal protest and advocacy campaign in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, scheduled from September 17 to October 11. Under the program ‘Romper com Injustiças – Novo Rumo para Portugal, Uma Vida Melhor’, the PCP aims to denounce social inequalities, the degradation of public services, and housing difficulties. The campaign includes a ‘buzinão’ (honking protest) in front of the Madeira Legislative Assembly to target rising fuel prices and will feature public forums to contest the privatization of economic sectors.
