Brandenburg Minister rejects BER Airport night flight ban changes

Brandenburg Transport Minister Robert Crumbach has rejected proposals to expand or relax the existing night flight ban at Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER). Crumbach stated that the current planning approval decision was difficult to establish and that there is no immediate need for changes, noting that the airport is not yet approaching its capacity limits.

Under current regulations, only low-noise aircraft are permitted to fly between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM. Regular flight operations are suspended between midnight and 5:00 AM, while the periods from 11:30 PM to midnight and 5:00 AM to 5:30 AM are reserved for handling delays or early arrivals. While the Berlin Linke party has campaigned for an extension of the ban to cover the full 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM window, and Berlin Mayor Kai Wegner suggested more flexibility, Crumbach intends to maintain the status quo. He noted that exceptions for individual cases, such as weather-related delays, can still be requested and approved.
