Brandenburg to reorganize police with new State Headquarters

Brandenburg plans to reorganize its police force by establishing a State Police Headquarters (Landespolizeipräsidium). Interior Minister Jan Redmann announced that this move aims to integrate the existing police headquarters with the police department within the Ministry of the Interior.

The reform is part of a broader expansion intended to increase the Brandenburg police force to 9,000 positions. The primary objectives are to eliminate overlapping responsibilities and strengthen local policing. This restructuring is a response to increasingly complex security challenges, including cybercrime and threats to critical infrastructure.

Additionally, the state plans to create a 360-degree security center. This center will facilitate regular coordination between security and emergency services to identify connections in hybrid threat scenarios, which include military, economic, intelligence, and propaganda-based attacks.
