Braço do Norte daycare escape: Toddler walks alone to mother's workplace

A 1-year-old and 6-month-old baby escaped from a municipal daycare in Braço do Norte, Santa Catarina, and walked approximately 50 meters alone to his mother's workplace. The incident occurred on a Friday morning after the child was left at the facility around 7:20 AM. Security footage captured the toddler walking through the street, crossing a busy road, and even falling while attempting to climb a sidewalk before reaching his mother's office.

The child arrived at the workplace and knocked on a glass door, where he was discovered and assisted by an employee. Despite the potential danger of the busy street, the child was not injured. The mother, Naiara Vieira, reported that the daycare was undergoing renovations, which may have resulted in the gate being left open.

Authorities have launched investigations into the incident. The Civil Police have opened an inquiry to determine responsibilities and clarify how the child exited the facility unnoticed. Additionally, the Municipal Secretariat of Education and Sports has initiated an administrative inquiry to review the daycare's protocols and the conduct of its staff.
