Braço do Norte daycare staff indicted after toddler escapes facility

The Civil Police of Santa Catarina have indicted the director and a security guard for abandonment of an incapable person following an incident in Braço do Norte. An 18-month-old child escaped from a daycare center that was undergoing renovations and walked approximately 50 meters alone through streets with high-speed traffic before reaching his mother’s workplace.

Investigations revealed that the facility's access gate was being kept open due to the ongoing renovations. Furthermore, the security guard was reportedly not present at the unit at the time the child exited, leaving the entrance without necessary supervision.

The Municipal Secretariat of Education and Sports has initiated an administrative inquiry to investigate the circumstances and verify the procedures adopted by the unit. The mother of the child expressed her distress over the event, noting that a tragedy could have occurred.
