Brașov bears repeatedly enter city, prompting relocations and a shooting

Eight bears frequently wander into the municipality of Brașov, with individuals reported in the Noua district, on Calea Feldioarei, Cloșca street, near Pietrele lui Solomon, Schei and Poiana Brașov. Local forest authorities, together with municipal emergency services and the gendarmerie, have been relocating the animals according to O.U.G. 81/2021. After a recent relocation to the Timișu de Sus forest, one bear returned to the city and was shot this week by the team leader of the intervention squad.

Separately, a bear cub was captured on video running through Brașov’s historic centre, prompting concern for residents, tourists, schools and nearby hospitals. Gendarmes calmly herded the cub back toward the forest, averting any injury. Officials have urged the public to stay alert in forest‑adjacent zones, especially when wildlife descends into urban areas in search of food.
