Romania advances major highway and rail infrastructure projects

Romania is undergoing significant infrastructure developments across its road and rail networks. A major milestone for the A7 motorway (the Moldova Highway) is the upcoming opening of a 47.1 km section between Adjud and Bacău Sud on August 31. This expansion will increase the total operational length of the A7 to approximately 241 km, significantly reducing travel times between Bucharest and Bacău.

Other major projects include the approval of expropriations for the Bacău–Pașcani motorway sections to facilitate utility relocation, and the division of the A13 Brașov–Bacău motorway into five distinct lots. In the south, the Bucharest–Alexandria motorway and the DR1 West Express radial road have received interministerial approval. Meanwhile, construction on the Sibiu–Pitești motorway has necessitated traffic diversions on the DN7 road through the Olt Valley until the end of 2026.

Regional road maintenance is also active, with rehabilitation works progressing on DJ 182B near Baia Mare, DJ 176 in Suceava, and DJ 585A in Timiș. In Slovenia, the Ljubljana central railway station is undergoing a major €205.7 million modernization, with seven new platforms expected to be available by late August 2026 to improve regional and European connectivity.
