Brașov mayor pledges accelerated school upgrades and new school construction amid rising enrollment

Mayor George Scripcaru and Deputy Mayor Lucian Pătrașcu met with directors of Brașov’s schools and kindergartens to set a schedule for repairs, sanitisation and modernisation work to be carried out during the summer break, aiming to have facilities ready for the new school year.

The administration highlighted pressure on school capacity caused by families migrating from neighbouring localities. To address this, the city is acquiring roughly two hectares in the Tractorul‑Coresi area to build a new modern school from the ground up, including sports halls, courtyards and ancillary facilities. Similar projects are planned for other districts, either expanding existing schools or constructing new ones. Ongoing investments continue at schools such as Gimnazială No. 8 and the Andrei Șaguna National College.

In parallel, the municipality is launching a 150‑lei sport voucher program for pupils aged 6 to 18 who reside in Brașov, to be redeemable at city sports clubs starting in September.
