Romanian and Moldovan police crackdown on drunk driving, speed violations

Police operations across Romania and Moldova in early July recorded a series of traffic offences. In Sighetu Marmației, a 20‑year‑old was stopped on a moped without a licence and with a breath‑alcohol level of 1.32 mg/l. A separate night‑time stop in Târgu Lăpuș found a 25‑year‑old driver with a 0.41 mg/l reading. In Argeș, a 53‑year‑old was arrested for driving under the influence, his test exceeding the legal limit.

In Hunedoara County, a ROADPOL SPEED operation between 29 June and 5 July issued 634 speed‑related fines and seized 16 driving licences. The same week, a police raid in Pitești penalised three truck drivers for tachograph violations, imposing fines of 8,000‑12,000 lei each and immobilising the vehicles. A Moldovan professional driver crashed near Certeze with an extreme blood‑alcohol level of 4.71 g/l, prompting criminal proceedings.

Additional checks in Sălaj, Cluj and other regions uncovered 11 drivers arrested for drunk driving and numerous riders of electric scooters and motorcycles fined for traffic infractions. The combined actions demonstrate a coordinated effort to enforce road safety laws and deter impaired or unlicensed driving.
