Brasiléia feminicide investigation: suspect arrested and mastermind identified
Police in Acre have made significant progress in the investigation of the feminicide of Dr. Elyne de Assis Nogueira, who was shot in the head at a bar in Brasiléia on November 2, 2026. Lucivaldo Lopes de Souza, known as “Pitaca,” was arrested in a rural area of Epitaciolândia and has reportedly confessed to being the executor of the crime. Investigators state the murder was allegedly contracted for a total of R$ 40,000, with R$ 10,000 intended for the shooter.
Francisco Valadares Neto, a municipal prosecutor and former lawyer, is identified as the alleged mastermind behind the killing. Valadares was found unconscious at his home following a suspected suicide attempt and remains in serious condition in the intensive care unit at the Rio Branco Emergency Room. He is currently under police custody, though his physical state has delayed formal interrogation.
The victim had an active urgent protective order against Valadares and had reportedly activated a panic button minutes before the attack. The case has sparked public protests in Rio Branco, with family members and local officials demanding justice and criticizing institutional failures in protecting women. The investigation is estimated to be approximately 75% complete.
