Brasília Cathedral receives funding boost and new cultural gallery

Governor Celina Leão signed an agreement on 3 May extending the partnership with the Archdiocese of Brasília for preservation work at the Metropolitan Cathedral. The term, now running until 31 August 2026, adds R$ 89 975.61 (about 3.1 %) to the original amount, bringing total funding to R$ 2 996 660.56.

The additional resources will support structural upgrades such as bathroom renovations, marble polishing, installation of an accessibility platform, LED informational totems and the launch of a guided‑visit mobile app. A new Cathedral Cultural Gallery will also be opened, featuring a café, food kiosk, souvenir shop and space for temporary exhibitions, expanding the site’s cultural and tourist offerings. Archbishop Paulo Cezar Costa praised the continued collaboration for safeguarding the Oscar Niemeyer‑designed monument.
