Pool closures in Slovakia and Croatia over health‑risk water findings

Slovakia’s public health authority ordered the shutdown of numerous swimming venues after water tests revealed hygiene breaches. Issues were found at artificial pools in Bratislava’s Lamač district, Rimavská Sobota, Podbrezová and other locations, as well as at natural sites such as Lake Krpáčovo and the Žiar beach pool. Operators were required to remediate the problems, retest the water and obtain approval before reopening.

In Zagreb, Croatia, outdoor pools at the Mladost sports complex were closed when laboratory analysis detected Legionella bacteria in a small pool and elevated trihalomethane levels in the large pool. The facilities were drained, cleaned, disinfected and hyper‑chlorinated. "Legionella was found in the small outdoor pool and elevated trihalomethanes in the large pool," officials said. Re‑opening will depend on fresh water‑quality results from the health institute.
