FlixBus and Blaguss deploy electric buses on Vienna-Bratislava route
FlixBus and the Blaguss Group have transitioned the high-frequency international route between Vienna and Bratislava to largely electric propulsion. As of October 1, 2026, eight battery-electric Yutong T12E buses are being deployed to cover the majority of the daily schedule.
The service includes 66 daily trips covering approximately 6,086 kilometers. The electric fleet accounts for 5,568 kilometers, or roughly 91% of the total distance, while the remaining 518 kilometers are serviced by conventional diesel vehicles. The route connects major hubs including Vienna Main Station, Vienna-Erdberg, and the international airports in both Vienna-Schwechat and Bratislava.
The Yutong buses are equipped with 466 kWh battery packs, providing an estimated range of up to 500 kilometers per charge. To support the operation, charging infrastructure has been established in both Vienna and Bratislava, utilizing photovoltaic systems combined with battery storage. This move from pilot testing to regular, high-frequency operation aims to demonstrate the reliability of electric long-distance transport on international short-haul routes.
