Brazil suspends 14 betting sites over regulatory failures

Brazil's Ministry of Finance, through the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting (SPA), has suspended 14 online betting websites operated by six companies. The precautionary measures were taken due to regulatory non-compliance, primarily the failure to transmit mandatory operational data to the government's Sigap monitoring system.

The affected companies include Pixbet, Zeroumbet, Enseada, Select, Nexus, and RR Participações. Specific violations included failing to provide required documentation regarding corporate structure and lacking tools to identify compulsive gamblers.

Under the suspension, these platforms are prohibited from offering new bets. However, they must remain accessible to allow users to withdraw existing balances. Companies that fail to comply with these orders face daily fines of R$ 200,000.

This regulatory crackdown comes amid growing concerns over gambling addiction in Brazil. Data from the SPA indicates that over 1.1 million bettors have requested self-exclusion from betting platforms, with 35% of those citing a loss of control over their gambling behavior.
