Brazil 2026 elections: Labor rights and company regulations
As the 2026 elections approach in Brazil, specific rights and duties for workers and companies have been outlined. The first round of voting is scheduled for October 4, 2026, with a potential second round on October 25.
For employees, the election day is a national holiday. Those required to work must receive compensatory time off or double pay. Employers are obligated to allow sufficient time for voting without salary deductions. Workers summoned as poll workers (mesários) are entitled to paid leave equivalent to double the days worked during their service.
Regarding the workplace environment, companies may restrict the use of campaign materials such as stickers or t-shirts. Both public and private sectors are prohibited from engaging in electoral propaganda or electoral harassment within professional settings.
