Brazil Bolsa Família payments advanced ahead of presidential runoff

The Brazilian government has advanced the October payment schedule for the Bolsa Família social subsidy to ensure all beneficiaries receive funds before the second round of presidential elections on October 25, 2026. The Ministry of Development and Social Assistance, Family and Fight Against Hunger justified the acceleration as a preventive measure to mitigate the impacts of the El Niño climate phenomenon on vulnerable families.

Under the new schedule, payments were concentrated into three days: October 19 for NIS endings 1, October 20 for NIS ending 2, and October 21 for all other endings (3 through 0). This replaces the traditional distribution over the last ten business days of the month. Additionally, residents in 194 municipalities across seven states facing emergency or calamity situations received credits on October 19, regardless of their NIS.

The October payroll reflects a 15.04% adjustment based on the INPC, increasing the minimum benefit per family from R$ 600 to R$ 691. The total monthly investment has risen from R$ 13 billion in September to R$ 15 billion in October, benefiting approximately 19.3 million families. The program includes various components, such as the R$ 164 per person Citizenship Income Benefit and specific additions for pregnant women, nursing mothers, and children.
