Brazil advances biofuel sector with new diesel replacement and B20 testing

The Brazilian company Be8 has introduced BeVant, a biofuel designed to replace 100% of fossil diesel. The product can be used in existing diesel engines and infrastructure without modifications, potentially reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 99% on a “tank-to-wheel” basis. The fuel is applicable to passenger transport, trucks, agricultural machinery, power generators, and maritime navigation. Be8 reports that the technology is already serving over 100 clients in Brazil.

Separately, the Brazilian Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) announced that testing for a 20% biodiesel blend (B20) is expected to conclude by February 2027. Currently, the mandatory biodiesel blend is 15% (B15). The testing process, which aims to validate blends up to 20% and potentially up to 25%, is part of a broader regulatory framework. Following the completion of these tests, the National Council for Energy Policy (CNPE) will determine the next increase in the mandatory blend percentage.
