Brazil advances efforts to resume seafood and poultry exports to the EU
Brazil is making progress toward resuming seafood, poultry, and honey exports to the European Union. A preliminary audit report conducted by European authorities in June recognized advancements in Brazil’s sanitary control structures. The report positively evaluated the country’s official control system, noting adequate legal frameworks, trained technical teams, and established procedures for sanitary certification and exporter qualification.
The audit specifically highlighted the effectiveness of the control system for fishing vessels within the production chain. This is a critical component for the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture, as it oversees the primary phase of production responsible for supplying raw materials to exporters.
Regarding poultry and honey, the process has entered its final evaluation phase. According to Augusto Billi, Secretary of Trade and International Relations at the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, a decision is expected in November. This follows upcoming technical meetings in Brussels where the audit report will be presented to representatives from the 27 EU member states. If the process proceeds as expected, Brazil aims to be relisted for poultry and honey exports by December.
