Brazil advances sports venues: Camboriú skate park tender and Rio arenas handed to Rock In Rio
The municipality of Camboriú in Brazil approved the authorization for a public bidding process to build a street‑style skate park in Parque Linear. Mayor Leonel Pavan and federal deputy Júlia Zanatta signed the term, with the project budgeted at roughly R$710,000 and an estimated nine‑month construction period, aiming to expand recreational options for youth and promote social inclusion.
In Rio de Janeiro, the city is concluding a concession that will transfer the management of three 2016 Olympic facilities – Arena Carioca 1, the Olympic Tennis Center and the Velodrome – to Rock World S.A., the company behind Rock In Rio. The operator offered a fixed fee of R$19.5 million for a minimum 20‑year lease. The Brazilian Olympic Committee chose not to bid, citing lack of financial viability. The venues will operate as multi‑use spaces, with priority given to cultural events while still allowing scheduled sports activities.
