Sebrae backs coral restoration startup to boost sustainable tourism in Brazil’s Northeast

Sebrae president Rodrigo Soares and Pernambuco superintendant Murilo Guerra visited the Biofábrica de Corais, a startup that uses coral restoration to create regenerative tourism experiences across Alagoas and Pernambuco. The initiative aims to involve at least 1,000 tourists in conservation actions by 2026, building on an already‑handled 1,500 corals and direct participation of 399 tourists last year. The project’s outreach has reached more than 10 million people through media coverage and social‑media posts, highlighting its dual focus on environmental education and local economic development. According to Soares, the effort exemplifies how micro‑ and small‑business support can combine biodiversity protection with income generation for coastal communities.
